I WAS NEARLY PHISHED – HOW TO AVOID IT
This article comes from Bill Schubert, a member of our HST leadership team. If something like this can fool one of our team members – who see these types of scams on a daily basis – it can surely happen to anyone. Always be cautious and give us a call if you are ever in doubt.
This has been going on for years and they still nearly got me. Here is the message as it was in my Outlook:
HST has a lot of Office 365 products so I was concerned not only with us but that there might be a bigger problem for our customers. I was less than a second away from clicking the Validate hyperlink when I saw the pop-up. Nothing to do with Microsoft. (The link starts with injoyglobal.com.) Obviously, the “From” email address is the same. All the pretty pictures and unusually well-written sentence. We get stuff like this from Microsoft periodically so I was just on automatic.
You can click on the picture to see it better. It is only a picture, not a link.
Do NOT do what I do. Do what I say. Don’t take anything for granted. Hover over hyperlinks and be sure they make sense. This would likely have made my day really uncomfortable.
As always, give us a call if you get something like this. We can remote in and help.
