Finding Your Tech Talent Superhero – Growing Demand, Shrinking Supply – Why the Avengers Work Together
For a few good companies, we have the answer! We support tech talent to become a team of superheroes.
This is a bold statement and Higher State Technology has developed and deployed a program for clients specifically designed for this tight tech skills and expertise market. We are looking for a few good companies facing any one or all the situations, described below.
Every Super Hero has their weaknesses. The Avengers popularity accentuates why it takes multiple superheroes to deal with the chaotically challenging, disruptive tech environment, today!
Your competition is making digital technology strides and you’ve realized you need to do the same. There has been an explosion in the number of companies looking for tech talent, skills and expertise – hoping they find that one person or maybe two, who knows it all.
While there is an abundance of tech skills, it becomes more challenging to find those skills combined with enough experience, the right experience, broad-based business knowledge, collaborative mindset, team management skills and leadership experience. It does take a team, yet companies job postings are seeking the ultimate superhero.
A recent job posting for an IT Director/Manager, describes the role as one who will architect, implement, administer, analyze, design, build and manage the deployment of a project to refurbish the IT infrastructure, as well as handle vendor management and lead the tech support team with the objective to improve all systems availability to all users – while advancing technology capabilities, continually, and drive down total cost of ownership.
A little more is requested…
develop a strategic plan that includes all stakeholders to clearly define the integration of technology with all business requirements, create an IT roadmap with an agile executable plan that defines all the objectives and scope of all projects.
Just a little more…
manages employees and financial budgets to forecast in order to complete the IT roadmap on time and on budget, while acquiring and interfacing with the right applications that meet users needs for achievement of organizational performance improvement objectives.
Okay, why stop there…
able to listen to stakeholder technology needs and provide appropriate input into other organizational strategic plans, while maintaining personal and professional technical hardware/software expertise with ongoing improvement in one’s management and leadership skills.
And just to emphasize a superhero is required…
oversee day-to-day tech support, evaluate daily performance, provide training, travel as needed to make repairs, required to be On-Call rotation and able to identify, analyze and fix all tech issues and include appropriate documentation of all processes, procedures and policy development and implementation solutions.
This overview of an IT Director/Manager role description has less than half the requirements listed in the job posting. Yet, the full job posting still is only the tip of the iceberg on how complicated the technology ecosystem is today, which raises these key questions.
- Do your staff, outsource, augment?
- How do you get all the right skills, expertise and knowledge with the general business knowledge to interface with team, management and executives?
- Does the individual have the project management and leadership skills with the knowledge to understand the business objectives to clearly define the technology that truly solves the issue and creates a sustainable solution?
It takes a team of superheroes, and few companies can afford the individual or team who can fill all these requirements. Higher State Technology answers these questions and many others with a ‘both/and’, ‘yes/and’ approach. We have developed and deployed an approach that in a 90-minute session begins to unravel this complexity into an understandable and actionable strategic plan. IT Road Mapping in 90 Minutes
